Sunset Views At Peterson Park

Overlook at Peterson Park near Northport

At the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, near Northport, sits this beautiful park with direct beach frontage on Lake Michigan.  With tremendous westward views, the overlook perched at the top of the treetops is the ideal place to view the sun setting over the horizon.  North Manitou island is noticeable in the distance.

The park has nice amenities including a children’s play area, picnic tables and restroom facilities.  The deck overlook has stunning views and there is a stairway to the beach from the park.  The park is set high on a bluff so there is a considerable drop from the park to the beach.  Be prepared to climb lots of stairs on your return to your car.

There are hundreds of feet of shoreline here.  The water is pristine but can be very chilly depending on the time of year.  The beach is sandy with rocks that vary from pebbles to large boulders.  Be on the lookout for the revered Petoskey Stone!

Peterson Park is a Leelanau County treasure.  You can find the park at the intersection of E Peterson Park Road and N Foxview Drive.  The park is located about 3 miles northeast of Northport.
