About Leelanau

Welcome to the Leelanau peninsula, one of the most beautiful and naturally diverse areas of Michigan. Located in northwest Michigan, the 45th parallel runs through the county. The county is comprised of eleven townships: Leelanau, Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, Empire, Elmwood, Centerville, Leland, Bingham, Cleveland, Kasson and Solon.

Leelanau County has an agricultural backbone and you’ll see many orchards growing primary cherries and apples. The peninsula is also home to a burgeoning wine industry with over twenty-five local wineries. Wine tasting is a past time of both locals and visitors alike.

Towns and villages dot the landscape and are perfect for exploring and shopping. Be sure to visit Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, Leland and Northport.

The iconic M-22 scenic highway circles the peninsula and travels through Suttons Bay, Northport, Leland and Glen Arbor. The highway is a beautiful drive with water views of Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay.

Natural features are abundant in Leelanau and include the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore which was awarded “The Most Beautiful Place in America” in 2011 by Good Morning America.

Whatever your interests, Leelanau County is a fantastic place to vacation and explore.
